Please be advised that many levels of Group Swim Lessons do fill up very quickly. Once a session is full, you may choose to be placed on the waitlist. We make every effort to accommodate as many participants as possible, and If a spot happens to open prior to the start of a session, the Swim Lesson Coordinator will call those on the waitlist in the order they were received. Unless you are contacted from the waitlist, it is not necessary to contact the Aquatics Division, however, if you have questions about swim lessons, please email Brandon at broth@parkeronline.org.
STARFISH AQUATICS INSTITUTE GROUP
SWIM LESSONS
The Starfish Swimming program offers courses containing age-appropriate activities that focus on the development of core water safety and aquatic skill competencies. Students first learn functional self-survival skills, then learn the correct swimming stroke technique by building upon what they already know.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SWIM LESSON CLASS
- If the child is 6 months to 2 years, register for Swim School StarBabies.
- If the participant, 3 years and older, CANNOT swim freestyle with rotary (side) breathing across the deep end of the pool, register for the age-appropriate Swim School.
- If the participant, age 3 to 12 years, CAN swim freestyle with rotary (side) breathing across the deep end of the pool, register for Stroke School.
For questions, please contact Brandon Roth at broth@parkeronline.org.
SWIM SCHOOL STARBABIES
6 months to 2 years with an adult
The StarBabies course introduces infants and toddlers to the water in a fun and loving environment, while training parents and caregivers in water safety and drowning prevention. This course focuses on comfort in the water and does not provide swim technique instruction nor emphasis on self-rescue, at this level.
SWIM SCHOOL
3 years and older
The Swim School program develops a foundation of swimming and safety skills with a focus on self-rescue. Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies or stages, using age-appropriate learning activities. Participants progress through the stages at individual rates. Learning is self-paced but challenging. This level does not emphasize swim technique and stroke development. In the first class, participants will be separated by their skill-level benchmarks and developmental readiness.
SWIM SCHOOL: AGES 3 TO 12
ADULT/TEEN: AGES 13+
STROKE SCHOOL
3 to 12 years
Designed for students of more advanced swimming ability, Swim Stroke School helps to refine freestyle and learn stroke technique for backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, improve endurance and more! Prerequisite: swim independently, using freestyle, across the deep end of the pool and easily tread water for 30 seconds.
