With a goal of increasing situational awareness while decreasing chances of being targeted for victimization, the first part of this class will focus on topics such as assertiveness, analyzing surroundings, safety strategies and verbal confrontation skills. By giving children ages 10 through 18 the power of education over fear, we are giving them an empowered mindset. During the second part of this class, we will move into defensive techniques to avoid, de-escalate, fight through and escape physical confrontations. We will focus on engaging defensive skills to protect themselves and fight back if targeted. Heavy bags and pads will be used to practice skills and add physical empowerment to the empowered mindset. This one-day class is held on Friday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Parker Fieldhouse, 18700 E. Plaza Dr. Cost is $30 per Parker resident and $33 per non-resident.
